Invention in Time is experienced at running workshops for schools, community groups, festivals and corporate bodies. The following workshops provide insight into the skills that Ariel and Kate use to create their unique music for Invention in Time.

Body Percussion
(60 minutes)

Kate Adam and Ariel Valent together form percussion duo Invention in Time. Although their primary instruments are marimba and vibraphone, body percussion is central in devising their unique compositions. In this workshop participants will learn about the innate musical capabilities lying dormant within their own physical form. Everybody (literally) will be making music by the end of this high energy workshop.

The Concept of Time
(60 minutes)
Bring an instrument if you have one

Presented by composer, percussionist and vibes player, Ariel Valent, this workshop will focus on the concept of the beat in music and how it is used in musical styles across the world. Special attention will be given to the use of odd time signatures.

Drum to Drum
(60 – 90 minutes)
Suitable for beginners

Have you ever marveled at how drummers seem to know just what to play? Drum to Drum is a workshop/jam experience that will teach the fundamental elements of playing rhythms and solos. Experienced music educator and percussionist, Kate Adam covers theoretical and technical aspects of drumming, equally important skills such as listening and feel and different approaches to hearing rhythm.
